“… the substantial progress in health over recent decades has been deeply unequal, with convergence towards improved health in a large part of the world, but at the same time, with a considerable number of countries increasingly lagging behind or losing ground.”
WHO World Health Report 2008
While medical knowledge has shown great gains in recent years this has been matched by the spiraling cost of medical care in first world countries. The challenges of managing diminishing resources is felt even more keenly in developing countries where the most basic of medical solutions are not provided let alone the hope of accessing treatments methods considered standard of care in first world hospitals.
Against this background Adept has focused its expertise in design and development to address the challenge of providing first world solutions to third world problems. The basic philosophy is that advances in science and technology should now allow us to provide high tech solutions to the core needs of healthcare systems struggling with balancing best patient outcomes against treatment costs.
In basic terms this involves Adept applying a first principles approach to the treatment needs of patients i.e. What is needed and what is the simplest, safest and most efficient method to address just that subset of needs. With an initial focus on supportive care and chronic disease management we are developing a pipeline of medical devices that provide the core functionality evident in the current range of complex and expensive equipment, but at a substantially reduced cost with improved simplicity of control.
With patient health and outcomes always at the forefront of the design process, the devices being produced are developed in line with the latest in international safety and clinical standards. Thus the outcome is high quality devices which have been specifically tailored to the health needs of those particular patient communities.
